Classification and Phylogeny

Common names:  weed, marijuana, kif, grass, pot, dope, herb, ganja, gangster, hash, mary jane, aunt mary, chronic, boom, reefer, sinsemilla, skunk, and many, many more.

Meaning: A strong smelling plant from whose dried leaves a number of euphoric and hallucinogenic drugs are prepared.

Classification

Domain: Eukarya- Cannabis is a Eukaryote because it has membrane bound organelles, a nucleus, and it is multicellular.

Kingdom: Plantae-  Cannabis belongs here because it contains chloroplasts and undergoes photosynthesis.

Division: Tracheophyta- Cannabis belongs here because it vascular and is a seed plant.

Subdivision: Pteropsida- Cannabis belongs under this subdivision because it is a flowering plant. 

Class: Angiospermae-  The subdivision Pteropsida is divided into 3 classes and angiosperms happens to be one of them.  Basically it means it is a flowering plant whose seeds are enclosed in an ovary.

Subclass: Dicotyledoneae- contains two cotyledons, (embryonic seed leaves that appear at germination).

Superorder: Dilleniidae- a group of families of more or less advanced trees and shrubs and herbs having either polypetalous or gamopetalous corollas and often with ovules attached to the walls of the ovary

Order: Urticales- Cannabis belongs here because of the hairs it contains.
