   Sepioteuthis lessonia, Bigfin Reef Squid, is a warm water squid found inHawaiian Islands temperate to tropical regions.  Sepioteuthis lessoniana live strictly in marine habitats.  Sepioteuthis lessoniana, is a common species of squid found all the way from the Hawaiian island’s through the tropical indo-pacific to the Red Sea. They are commonly spotted by snorkelers in the Australian Great Barrier Reef and off the coast of Tokyo.

    Sepioteuthis lessoniana require a salinity of 32-35 ppt and temperatures of 15-27o C.  Bigfin Reef Squid tend to remain close to the shoreline, in water depths of up to 2,933 meters below sea level. Sepioteuthis lessoniana are extremely sensitive to chemical changes in the water.  If there is a sudden change the chemical aura, the squid will expel a dark cloud of ink
