Welcome to Shigella Sonnei!
Did you know that there are 165 million
estimated cases of Shigellosis every year?
If you have not heard of this bacterial infection, this is the
time to learn.
But what exactly is Shigella?
Shigella is a family
of non-motile bacteria that
can cause diarrhea, bloody stool, abdominal cramps, and fever
that lasts anywhere from one to three days.
These symptoms may seem common to many people but this infection
tends to occur in children anywhere from
infants to adolescents.
Younger people are not the only
ones susceptible to the infection but it is more commonly seen
in children because it is transmitted by
fecal-oral
contact, i.e. poor restroom hygiene. In other words, children
interact with other children and if one with the infection
does not wash their hands after using the restroom, it can be
transmitted to others.
Throughout
my website, I have more details on this infection and what
actions can be taken to prevent it. Feel free to explore and
if there are any questions do not hesitate to
contact me!
Knowledge and awareness are the keys prevention!
