Reproduction
Many gastropod species have unique courtship ceremonies (Hickman, et al. 2007). Like most of Stylommatophora, Pupilla muscorum is a hermaphrodite, an organism with both male and female reproductive organs (Living World of Molluscs, 2010). Individuals will reach maturity at approximately their second year of life (Animal Base,2010) Pupilla muscorum is an ovoviviparous species, meaning that eggs are stored and hatched within the adult's body. (Living World of Molluscs, 2010) Gravid individuals (those already with fertilized eggs) will not mate (Animal Base, 2010) Pupilla muscorum is also capable of incubating up to 8 eggs for an extended amount of time, allowing adults to give birth when conditions are most favorable (Animal Base, 2010).
