Reproduction
The bronze pinecone does not have any specialized uncommon reproduction characteristics than any other snail in the Gastropoda class. The Gastropods are dioecious, but can either have a male and a female to mate or they can be hermaphroditic and contain both sex organs of male and female. The vas deferens (which transfers sperm) of the Bronze Pinecone ends near the base of the spermatheca (a sperm receiving organ). Fertilization takes place and the eggs are laid. When ready, they hatch and into a larval stage known as a trochophore. This larva goes through another change and becomes a veliger which have cilia and are equipped with the materials for a shell and organs. (Wilbur, 1964) For more information on Gastropods Go Here!
