Characteristics
The main opening (aperture) of the shell has 4 teeth, or small calcareous shells, that are arranged in the shape of a cross (MNFI).
The Vertigo cristata has a rather large shell (1.8-2.1mm) for such a tiny snail and is a strongly marked race. It has a large, well-developed crest and a yellowish, "beehive-shaped" shell with 4.5-5 individiual whorls (Nekola 1998).
