Geography
Campeloma decisum are found primarily on the eastern coast of
North America, from a few parts of Florida, up to areas of
Canada (Dillon et al., 2006).
In Canada, specifically, Campeloma decisum range from Nova Scotia,
west to Ontario and Manitoba (Burch
and Tottenham,
1980). In the
U.S., Campeloma decisum can be found in the following states:
AL, AR, CT, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MS, NC,
NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV
(Cordeiro, 2008).
Of the U.S. Campeloma decisum populations, the Indiana
populations are the geographical groups that are closest to extinction
(Cordeiro, 2008).
Habitat
Campeloma decisum
play an extremely important role in their aquatic habitat and
food chains, with significant influence on the fish and diving
duck food chains (Van Appledorn et
al., 2007).
Campeloma decisum reside on the aquatic floors and even below the
surface of the floor (Van Appledorn
et al., 2007). Since this is where all populations
tend to reside, their burrowing ability is a common
behavioral characteristic among all members of the species
regardless of geographical location (Van Appledorn et al., 2007). Campeloma decisum
of the Midwest have been found in both
lentic and
lotic environments (Van Appledorn et. al.,
2007).
However, in the Southeast, they prefer to reside solely in
Atlantic drainages or river drainages
(Dillon et. al., 2006).
What types of waters do Campeloma
decisum prefer?
Aquatic habitats with calcium levels of at least
3mg/liter are favorable, allowing Campeloma decisum to grow
healthy shells (Cordeiro, 2008). Campeloma decisum usually will
not be found in environments with a pH level lower than 5, in
high salinity waters, or in water with a temperature higher than
45° (Cordeiro, 2008).

Campeloma decisum are capable of living in.
