Geographic Distribution

     Lobosculum pustula (previously known as Polygyra pustula), is a native species of the Southeastern United States. Lobosculum pustula can be found in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama (Burch, 1962). In addition, this species can also be found in the Austroriparian area of the Lower Austral zone, from Georgia to Texas, and north in the Mississippi Valley to Indiana and Arkansas (Pilsbry, 1940). Specific locations where Lobosculum pustula lives are listed below and a map of the geographic distribution of this species is shown in figure 1.

South Carolina: inhabits along the the Wando River (Pilsbry, 1940).

Georgia: seen near Savannah and St. Simon's I. (Pilsbry, 1940).

Florida: is found in Jacksonville, Duval Co. Thallahassee, Leon Co. Quincy, Gadsden Co. Pensacola, Escambia Co. Green Cove Springs, Clay Co. St. Augustine, St. Johns Co. Welaka, Putnam Co. Arredonda and Gainesville, Alachua Co. Cedar Keys, Levy Co. Salt Run, Marion Co. Tick Island and Hawk's Park, Volusia Co. Crystal River, Homosassa and Lecanto, Citrus Co. Istachatta, Hernado Co. Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co. Manatee Co. Osprey, Sarasota Co. Mondongo Island, Lee Co. Boynton, Palm Beach Co. Miami, and Dade Co. (Pilsbry, 1940).

Alabama: seen in Evergreen, Conecuh Co. Magnolia Springs and Point Clear, and Baldwin Co. Mobile (Pilsbry, 1940).

Habitat

Lobosculum pustula is found crawling over vegetable debris and among rocky nooks, particularly after rainfall has moisten the ground (Pilsbry, 1940; Bartsch, 1936). Lobosculum pustula along with thirty other land snails crawl the low grounds underneath deciduous trees, vines and orchids (Bartsch, 1936).
