Adaptation

Naiads swim using jet propulsion, by pushing water out from the ends of their abdomens.  They take a few years to mature and emerge at night, most likely to avoid daytime predators.  Zigzag darners have the ability to regulate their body temperature, unlike most dragonflies.  This ability allows them to fly in colder temperatures.  Male dragonflies are able to displace the sperm of other males during copulation.  This allows the most recent male to have an increased chance of reproduction.  Zigzag darners are one of the smaller species of dragonflies and exhibit sexual dimorphism, in which females tend to be greener while the males are bluish.  The large eyes that are characteristic of dragonflies provide some of the best vision of all the arthropods.
