The One and Only!

Photograph was taken by Merel R. Black from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. It shows the fall color of this majestic tree.Acer saccharinum is more commonly known in the United States as silver maple. Throughout the world it is also referred to  as Wager's maple, soft maple, river maple, silberahorn, and zilveresdoorn. This tree is found all around the La Crosse, Wisconsin, area.

Interesting fact: With the emerald ash bore destroying many of the ash trees in the area, some believe the tree that is going to take its place in the forests is the silver maple. With this possibility, our need to understand this species is more important than ever.
