Nutrition

These animals are described as omnivores. This is because they tend to feed on both plant and animal sources. The animal sources bearded dragons feed on are typically anything they can overpower. The main animal sources it consumes are insects, but sometimes they can eat young rodents and even small birds. Leafy plants, flowers and various fruits are common food items for the bearded dragon.

The bearded dragon is a hunter that will spend a large amount of time during the day eating. It has a heightened sense of smell that helps it find various foods.

After ingesting the food, the nutrients travel around its body in a closed circulatory system. As with many reptiles, many different parasite species are found in the intestinal tract of the bearded dragon.
