Reproduction

Sexual maturity is reached at about 18 months. The mating season begins in early spring. The mating season is kicked off when the animals sense a change in temperature. Males can inflate their beard to attract females. When a female gets close, the male bites the female behind the head to get a good grip and then he proceeds to mate with the female.

The gestation period for the eggs is about a month and a half. After that time period a clutch of between eleven and thirty eggs are laid. The eggs are left unattended afterwards. The young hatch about three months later.
