 *The rainbow lorikeet's sharp,     screeching voice is heard pretty much all the time- during flight, while feeding, and even at rest!

 *Many people refer to the rainbow lorikeets as “parrots with attitude!”

 *They truly do exhibit most of the colors of the rainbow in their plumage- the head is usually violet or blue, the belly is yellow and orange, the eyes and the beak arepicture property of Lory Link of NZ red, and the wings and the tail are green!

*Four sub-species of rainbow lorikeets are found in Australia.

*Their agility and energy is often compared to that of a monkey!

*Rainbow lorikeets exhibit a long life; some have been known to live for twenty years! (To learn about the full life history of rainbows, visit the Reproduction page!)

*Like other parrots, rainbows can be bought as pets, but owners are encouraged to try and buy a male and female pair so they can mate.  It is also recommended that rainbow lorikeets are not caged with other species, because they are not very tolerant.
