Red-winged Blackbird perched (male)

 

    -These birds do not take part in seasonal migrations.

 

   -They do not form monogamous relationships. In fact, when males protect their territory, they many times, end up protecting up to 15 females with nests! 

 

    -Their epaulets, red spots, are used for mating and as a warning to other males entering their territory.

 

    - These birds are actually native to North America. Many organisms in America today were, at some point in time, brought here by immigrants from Europe and other countries, but the Red-winged Blackbird has always made its home here.
