Classification

Every known organism has a classification to help scientists study a particular organism and to minimize any confusion while communicating . The Amelanchier Canadensis is classified as the following:

Domain: Eukarya- this is the domain for organisms with a nucleus
Kingdom: Plantae- this is the kingdom for plants
P
hylum : Magnoliophyta- this is the phylum for flowering plants
Class: Magnoliopsidia- this is the class for a flowering plant with two leaves at germination
Order: Rosales- this is the order for flowering plants
Family: Rosaceae- this is the family for the rose plants
Genus: Amelanchier- this is the genus for the service berry
Species: A. Canadensis- this is the species name of the Canadian serviceberry

The Amelanchier genus is a broad category. I have included a relative of the Canadian serviceberry to demonstrate similarities between the two species.

Domain: Eukarya- this is the domain for organisms with a nucleus
Kingdom: Plantae- this is the kingdom for plants
Phylum: Magnoliophyta- this is the phylum for flowering plants
Class: Magnoliophyta- this is the class for flowering plants with two leaves at germination
Order: Rosales- this is the order for flowering plants
Family: Rosaceae- this is the family for the rose plants
Genus: Amelanchier Medik.- this is the genus for the service berry
Species: Amelanchier Arborea (Mickx. f.) Fernald- this is the species name for the common serviceberry

The two Amelanchier plants are identical except for the fact that there are two different species. This in turn slightly changes the scientific name. The use of scientific names is to make sure communication between scientists does not become confused in regards to which plant species is being talked about.
