The Thornicroft
giraffe (G. c. thornicrofti) got its name from a native
commissioner
for the British South Africa Company named Harry Scott Thornicroft.
This
giraffe, commonly known as the Rhodesian
giraffe, is one of the smallest subspecies of giraffes in the world.
These giraffes are only found in Zambia and are isolated from all
other giraffe species by 400 kilometers in any which direction
(Fennessy et al,, 2013). Giraffes have been known for their extremely long necks and
unique spots, but many people do not know much beyond that. We will be
introducing in depth information about the Rhodesian giraffe and
some fun facts as well. Our journey will begin with the
classification of the Thoricroft
giraffe.
