Anguispira alternata
Welcome to my website about one of the most common terrestrial
snails of the United States, Anguispira
alternata, or
more commonly known as the Flamed Disc or Flamed Tigersnail.
When finding a snail, it might be extremely difficult to
determine the correct species. My website is here to help
in determining that the snail you are holding in your hand is
indeed the Anguispira
alternata!
There are about 40,000 species of snails in the world, with many of them looking exactly the same. Snails are some of the most unknown organisms and terrestrial snails have the highest
extinction rate of all animals. The flamed tigersnail is one that not
much is known about. It is evident that this and other snails must be studied
more in depth to learn how they are integrated in the tree of life
in order to stop their extinction and learn about
why these slimy creatures are so abundant and so diverse.
To find out more about the Anguispira alternata, browse through the links on the left or on the bottom of the page to learn more about the biological aspect of this snail. Good luck and enjoy!
Classification is next!
