Habitat
As you can see on the map above, Zoogenetes harpa can be found across the entire northern hemisphere. It's habitat ranges all the way from Massachusetts to Alaska to Asia to Europe (Discover Life). A terrestrial organism, the boreal top snail can be found living among cottonwood, leaf litter, on plants, and under rocks (LivingLandscapes). What could have caused such dispersal? To answer that, we may look at the fossil record. If this organism appeared before the separation of these land masses, the population could have been dispersed (Snails Tales). International trade could have also played a role in dispersal of the species. Such a small snail could easily slip past customs and go on its way to the New World.
