Zoogenetes harpa: the boreal top snail

Boreal forest

The Gastropods are the largest and most diverse group of molluscs. Currently, there are about 70,000 living species, with more discovered all of the time (Hickman et al. 2009). Land snails alone have more than 24,000 species (Heller et al. 1997). Because of this, we can see them occupying a variety of habitats across the globe. Today, we will take a look at a unique little species: Zoogenetes harpa. The boreal top snail embodies the phrase "bigger isn't always better". This teeny guy can be found all around the world and is an excellent example of how well gastropods can adapt and spread.
