Unit 4 deals with proteomics, the study of proteins based
upon their amino acid sequence and three-dimensional structure. In
the three labs that follow you will analyze the primary sequence of an
assigned protein and try to predict as much as you can about the structure
and function of the protein. Next you will obtain orthologs and
paralogs and identify regions that have been conserved over evolution of
species, and through the development of protein families. Finally
you will superimpose this alignment onto the three-dimensional structure
of your protein to see where the conserved regions align.
