Other Related Species

 

The following birds are all of the same genus, Tachycineta.  As was previously mentioned in Classification, this genus includes those birds that are part of the swallow family restricted to North, Central, and South America.  All these swallows have forked tails and pure white underparts.   Most migrate during the winter to habitats with more food supply and use cavities for their nest sites.  The species differ mostly by the color of their upper feathers and some have a white rump.  The Violet-Green Swallow, which is most similar, have greener upper parts with a violet tinge. The Violet-Green Swallow can be seen on the right.  Below are the other species that fall into the genus Tachycineta.
