Uncensored Bacteria Sex
Like many other bacteria, Salmonella reproduces asexually by binary fission.
Binary fission occurs in several
steps:
1) The cell elongates and the DNA is replicated.
The daughter chromosomes
move to opposite ends of the cell.
2) The cell wall and plasma membrane begin to divide into two.
3) After the DNA is completely divided, a new cell wall forms
in the middle to separate the two cells.
4) Binary fission is complete and the two daughter cells
separate from one another.
